For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

  • cumulative service period of twelve (12) years, three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Principal Building Inspection and Audit, CSG 7 or in a comparable and relevant position in the public service;
  • a Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines:-Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Quantity Survey, Survey, Design, Urban and Regional Planning, Building Economics or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • registered by a relevant and recognized professional body; and
  • demonstrated professional competence and managerial skills as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level may be deployed either at the Headquarters or in the Regional Office. At the headquarters an officer at this level may be deployed in the following functional areas where duties and responsibilities will include:-

Built Environment Inspection

  • working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in reviewing and ensuring implementation of national built environment inspection policies, strategies, programmes, procedures, guidelines and regulations;
  • supervising preparations of standard inspection manuals and templates for use by relevant agencies;
  • working with multi-sectoral agencies in conducting pre-inspection, inspection and post inspection of built environment structures;
  • engaging relevant agencies in conducting continuous and periodic safety health inspections of built environment structures;
  • working with relevant stakeholders involved in search, rescue and evacuation missions;
  • supervising research work and promoting benchmark studies with other institutions to keep abreast with emerging trends in built environment inspection issues;and
  • maintaining the national built environment inspection electronic database.

Built Environment Audit

  • working in collaboration with relevant stakeholders in reviewing and ensuring implementation of national built environment audit policies, strategies, procedures and programmes, guidelines and regulations;
  • supervising preparations of standard audit manuals and templates for use by relevant agencies;
  • working in consultation with multi-sectoral agencies in promoting built environment audit inspections in compliance with required guidelines and standards;
  • liaising with relevant agencies in conducting continuous and periodic safety health audit inspection of built environment structures;
  • working inconsultation with relevant stakeholders in addressing remedial measures in built environment;
  • collaborate with relevant stakeholders in mapping of built environment audit inspections;
  • providing technical guidance to vetting committees on built environment audit inspections;
  • supervising research work and promoting benchmark studies with other institutions to keep abreast with emerging trends in built environment audit issues; and
  • maintaining the national built environment audit electronic database
