Role Purpose

Under the general direction and guidance of the Director of Flight Operations, the Chief Pilot provides leadership, expertise, and oversight to the flight crew. The role ensures the highest standards of safety and security, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance within Jambojet.

  • Lead the Flight Deck team, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant operations that uphold Jambojet fleet standards.
  • Enforce safety in flight operations, making informed decisions based on the Risk Matrix and safety protocols (Chapter 2 of SMS Manual), while vigilantly monitoring compliance with regulations, security measures, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Safety and Quality Managers to investigate incidents/accidents and ensure aircraft discrepancies reported by flight crew are promptly addressed.
  • In the absence of the Director of Flight Operations, represent the organization during interactions with regulatory authorities, equipment manufacturers, and other entities.
  • Participate in accompany flights to evaluate pilot performance and manage pilot upgrade processes, ensuring consistent progression and compliance.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of cost-effective pilot training programs, including ground, simulator, and flying sessions, ensuring they align with approved and periodically refined syllabi.
  • Stay abreast of new training projects and aids, collaborating with specialists and regulatory bodies to continuously enhance Jambojet’s training materials and practices.
  • Ensure flight operations documentation is compliant with all regulations and promptly address any audit findings with corrective actions.
  • Maintain up-to-date performance reports on flight crew and fleet matters to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Ensure optimal planning and utilization of flight deck crew while maintaining up-to-date qualifications in compliance with regulations.
  • Anticipate operational challenges, especially within a low-cost airline context, and formulate solutions while contributing flight operations insights to strategic planning sessions.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage team members to foster a cohesive team and achieve objectives.

Education

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management or a related field from a recognized university.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a dynamic flight operations management environment.

Certifications

  • Relevant industry certifications. Membership to professional bodies is an added advantage.
