PSK is hiring a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to provide strategic leadership and ensure the achievement of the Society’s strategic objectives. The role is based in Nairobi and experience leading multidisciplinary teams is required.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the head of the Secretariat and is responsible for providing strategic, operational and administrative leadership to the Society. Working under the direction of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and in accordance with the Constitution of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, the CEO shall provide executive leadership in implementing the Society’s strategic priorities, supporting governance structures, strengthening institutional performance, advancing policy and advocacy initiatives, promoting member value, and ensuring effective stewardship of the Society’s resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Secretariat and ensure effective implementation of the Society’s Strategic Plan, Annual Work Plans, policies and decisions of the National Executive Committee and National Governing Council.
- Serve as Secretary to the National Executive Committee and National Governing Council, ensuring effective coordination, implementation of resolutions and timely
- reporting.
- Lead the day-to-day management of the Society’s Secretariat, ensuring operational excellence, accountability, professionalism and efficient service delivery.
- Develop and implement institutional systems for planning, performance management, monitoring and evaluation, including organisational work plans, staff performance
- objectives, KPIs, performance appraisals and reporting frameworks.
- Provide leadership in policy development, advocacy, research and stakeholder engagement in advancing the interests of the pharmacy profession and the objectives of
- the Society.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with Government, County Governments, Parliament, regulatory agencies, development partners, academia, healthcare institutions, private sector organisations, professional associations and international partners.
- Lead resource mobilisation initiatives including fundraising, grant management, strategic partnerships and sustainable income generation for the Society.
- Ensure sound financial management, prudent utilisation of resources and compliance with all statutory, regulatory and fiduciary obligations.
- Strengthen governance systems by supporting the NEC, NGC, Branches and Committees through timely information, implementation of resolutions, risk management and
- institutional accountability.
- Ensure effective corporate communication and maintain the Society’s professional image among members, partners, Government and the public.
- Foster a high-performance organisational culture through effective leadership, mentorship, succession planning, staff development and talent management.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving member services, organisational efficiency and data-driven decision making.
- Promote compliance with the Society’s Constitution, the National Executive Committee consistent with the Constitution and strategic objectives of the Society.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) or an equivalent pharmacy qualification recognized in Kenya.
- A postgraduate qualification in Business Administration, Strategic Management, Public Policy, Leadership, Public Health or a related field will be an added advantage.
- Progressive leadership experience, with at least five (5) years at senior management or executive level.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing institutional operations.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, organizational management and performance improvement.
- Proven experience in policy development, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and partnership management.
- Demonstrated experience in financial oversight, budgeting and resource mobilization.
- Membership in good standing with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya.
- A valid practising licence from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
