Our client is a continental leadership, training, consultancy and digital solutions institution working with professionals and organisations across Africa. They are looking to hire an ambitious, confident and results-driven Business Development Manager to help expand our footprint, open new markets, engage high-value clients and drive business growth across the continent. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing our training, consultancy and digital solutions portfolio across Africa.
The Business Development Manager will lead growth efforts by identifying opportunities, engaging potential clients, coordinating business development activities, developing winning proposals and converting leads into confirmed business. This role requires a highly motivated professional who is comfortable engaging senior decision-makers, leading sales conversations, coordinating a marketing and business development team, and following opportunities from first contact to successful conversion.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading business development efforts for training, consultancy and digital solutions portfolio.
- Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities across Kenya and other African markets.
- Engaging corporate, government, NGO, donor, development and institutional clients.
- Building and managing a strong pipeline of leads, prospects, proposals and client opportunities.
- Coordinating marketing and sales activities to ensure agreed targets are achieved.
- Preparing high-quality proposals, concept notes, expressions of interest, capability statements and client presentations.
- Following up leads from marketing campaigns, referrals, networks, events and institutional databases.
- Converting potential opportunities into confirmed trainings, consultancy assignments and partnerships.
- Managing client relationships and supporting repeat business from existing clients.
- Conducting market research to identify new countries, sectors, institutions and training needs.
- Tracking sales pipelines, proposal submissions, conversions, revenue and client engagement activities.
- Representing the insitution professionally in client meetings, presentations, calls and business discussions.
- Supporting the design of market entry strategies for selected African countries.
- Working closely with trainers, consultants, digital solutions teams and management to package strong client solutions.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of experience in business development, sales, marketing, client engagement, institutional partnerships or proposal development.
- Proven ability to lead or coordinate a team to achieve results.
- Strong proposal writing, concept development and presentation skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to engage senior professionals, institutional leaders and decision-makers with confidence.
- Ability to work under pressure, follow up consistently and meet targets.
- Strong understanding of professional services, training, consultancy, NGO, development, government or corporate markets.
- Experience working in training, consultancy, leadership development, digital solutions, NGO, development or professional services sectors will be an added advantage.
- Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Confidence in client engagement and institutional selling.
- Strong networking and relationship-building ability.
- Proposal writing and presentation capability.
- Strategic thinking and market awareness.
