Ass. Manager – Group Card Business Support Job I&M Bank, Nairobi, Kenya
Roles & Responsibilities
Card Business Management
- Support the development and execution of card business strategies across assigned markets.
- Monitor portfolio performance, including card issuance, activation, transaction volumes, revenues and profitability.
- Identify opportunities to increase card usage, customer acquisition and portfolio growth.
- Support pricing reviews, business cases and product positioning.
Market & Country Support
- Act as the primary regional support for I&M subsidiaries.
- Work closely with country teams to implement card initiatives and achieve business targets.
- Understand local market dynamics and recommend appropriate business solutions.
- Coordinate country specific campaigns, launches and portfolio enhancement initiatives.
Product & Portfolio Management
- Manage the day-to-day performance of debit, credit, prepaid and commercial card products.
- Monitor customer behavior and portfolio trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend enhancements to improve customer experience, product competitiveness and profitability.
- Support the introduction of new card products and features where required.
Business Development & Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with payment schemes, processors, fintech partners and strategic vendors.
- Support negotiations and implementation of commercial initiatives with partners.
- Identify opportunities for co-branding, merchant partnerships and new revenue streams.
- Coordinate regional initiatives with Visa, Mastercard and other ecosystem partners.
Performance Management
- Track key business metrics including:
- Card issuance
- Active cards
- Transaction volumes and values
- Interchange income
- Fee income
- Portfolio profitability
- Customer adoption
- Prepare monthly business performance reports and recommendations for management.
- Monitor country performance against agreed targets.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with payment scheme rules, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Support audit, risk and compliance reviews relating to the card business.
- Monitor operational issues affecting the portfolio and coordinate timely resolution.
- Ensure products remain compliant with changing regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Operations, Technology, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Marketing and Sales teams.
- Support country management teams in executing regional card strategies.
- Coordinate with external partners to ensure successful delivery of business initiatives.
- Prepare management presentations and business updates.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications in Payments, Product Management or Project Management are an added advantage.
- 4–7 years’ experience in card business, payments, retail banking or digital financial services.
- Good understanding of card issuing, acquiring, payment schemes and digital payments.
- Experience working across multiple African markets is an advantage.
- Strong commercial and analytical skills.
