Agronomist – Seed Replication Farm Job

Reports To: Production Manager

Location: Meru County

Employment Type: Full-time

The Agronomist is responsible for managing and improving crop production of plants through scientifically based practices. This role involves overseeing soil health, plant nutrition, pest and disease management, irrigation, and implementing sustainable agricultural practices to ensure optimal flower yield and quality.

  • Monitor and evaluate the health and growth of plants.
  • Conduct soil, water, and tissue analysis to recommend appropriate fertilization and irrigation regimes.
  • Develop and implement pest and disease management programs in collaboration with the production manager.
  • Guide the selection and use of fertilizers, and agrochemicals to optimize crop performance.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards related to crop production.
  • Work closely with the farm management team to plan planting, harvesting, and rotation schedules.
  • Train farm workers on best agronomic practices and ensure proper implementation.
  • Keep detailed records of crop performance, treatments, and interventions.
  • Recommend and introduce new technologies or methods to improve productivity and flower quality.
  • Monitor climate conditions and adjust farm practices accordingly to mitigate risks.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of agronomy experience in a horticultural farm.
  • Strong understanding of floriculture, soil science, plant nutrition, and integrated pest management (IPM).
  • Proficiency in farm data collection and analysis tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor farm conditions and lead field teams.
