How A Referral To C.S.S Got Me My Dream Job

It is no news that the unemployment rate in Kenya has increased. Research indicates that it takes a university graduate average of 5 years to get a job in Kenya.

What does this mean?

Getting a job in Kenya is like winning a jackpot. Many candidates apply for few available opportunities and this means that the competition is going to be tougher.

In September 2021, we advertised for the position of Direct Sales Supervisor Job for our client in the Fintech

industry Pyypl, and after James Warui applied for the job, he was called for an interview.

I caught up with him to find out what made him stand out from other candidates and a few lessons you can pick from his journey.

 Here is what he had to say:

Tell us about yourself. What is your professional qualification?

My name is James Warui, a marketer and trade developer professional with 8 years of experience working in the telecommunications Industry and computer systems design industry.

How long have you been looking for a job?

I had been looking for a job for four months and the reason behind that was that I wanted to discover more opportunities for my career growth and self-development.

What has your job search experience been like?

I can say my job search was a roller coaster because there were a few challenges that I encountered for instance sending applications without getting feedback but on the other hand, I was able to overcome them with persistence and commitment for I had some goals to achieve.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Well, challenges are common in job search and yes, I encountered a few. Some job descriptions did not align with my experience and I ended up not getting a response from the employers.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I heard about CSS from a former colleague who advised me to keep checking their website. I kept my eye daily when I came across the position of direct sales representation. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a job through CSS because of their transparency and when you have the required experience and skills, you are likely to be called for an interview.

How was the application and interview process?

The application process was smooth because I shared my CV and then was called for an interview that was organized and to the point.

Did you think you would get the job?

I was optimistic and I knew I had a higher chance of getting the job because my experience matched what was required in the job description.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this tough time. What is your advice to them?

Job search sometimes is frustrating but the key is to be resilient and never give up. When applying for any job, it is important to use a targeted approach where you apply for the jobs that you qualify for and you meet the requirements. It is also important to tailor your CV to the jobs that you are applying for to ensure that it is ATS compliant and this will increase your chances of getting a job.
