In today’s job market, a strong online presence is essential and LinkedIn is a powerful platform to network, learn about the job opportunities, and showcase skills and experience.

It is said that you get more bang for your job-hunting buck when you use LinkedIn and leveraging its power can provide you with an opportunity to be noticed by employers.

Charles Gachigua learned about the role of Account Receivables & Risk Officer we had advertised for our client Manuchar through LinkedIn.

After submitting his application, from over 1000 applicants, he went to the final stage and was considered for the role.

Here is his career journey and a few lessons you can pick from him;

Tell us about yourself

I am an outstanding, focused Finance and Accounting professional with over 4 years of working experience in a trading and distribution company, provider of steel, electrical, hardware, and telecom solutions, and milk collection dairy.

A determined economist, policy researcher, and institutional advisor on sound decision-making with candid, full of acumen, ready to improve the bottom line and enhance quality change in the company.

How long had you been looking for a job?

While still working in my former place of work, I was driven by the motivation to seek career growth, and I started looking for a new job to expose me to new challenges.

What has your job search experience been like?

My experience was not bad. I was a regular visitor of the Corporate Staffing Services website and the social media platforms to check the new openings that were posted.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Not really

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I learned about CSS through Linked In. I have been a follower and I usually receive notifications on new posts. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a job.

How was the application and interview process?

The application and the interview process were very smooth but at the same highly competitive because there were many applicants and they were looking for one person. We went through a series of interview stages and they wanted the best qualified candidate and I am grateful that I stood out.

Did you think you would get the job?

I have always been optimistic and in everything that I do, I give it my best shot.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

Apart from the competencies, the employers look at the confidence level of the candidates, attitude towards work, and someone who can be problem solver.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs in this competitive job market. What is your advice to them?

The secret to succeeding is to believe in yourself because no one else will. Know what you want, set the goals, and work towards achieving them.

What do you think is the secret to getting a job in this competitive market?

Before you apply for any role, understand the needs of the employer by reading through the job description, connect your qualifications with what the employer is looking for, prepare extensively for the interview, and give it your best shot during the interview and you will be on your way to success. 

If you were to speak to any professional out there, what is one thing you would tell them to do to succeed this 2023?

Successful tomorrow is a result of clarity of vision and purpose of today.
