“When I advertise for a job, HR certification and membership is not always a strict requirement but it is an added advantage because it can significantly enhance a candidate’s profile and increase their competitiveness,” Grace said.

She added that official recognition proves that the candidate has invested in professional development to acquire specialized skills and they are competent to excel in their role.

Some roles may indicate specific certifications for example CHRP or IHRM membership to be a prerequisite especially HR manager roles and indicating this in your resume adds weight and increases your chances of being shortlisted.
