How Same Day Application Got Me An Interview

How often do we wait for the deadline to apply for jobs? I won’t lie; I was once a victim of the last-minute rush a few years ago.

The first thing I would check before applying for a role was the deadline, if it was still far then I would postpone my application to that same day.

For Ann, she believed otherwise. She had prepared her documents ready to apply for any job that would come her

way.

When she was going through the CSS website, she came across the position of Human Resource Officer we had advertised for our client Ombi Rubber Rollers.

She applied the same day and was called for an interview. This was a rare scenario because most employers usually take time to respond.

I caught up with her to understand how she managed to stand out in a pool of applicants who were competing for the same position.

Here is her story:

Tell us about yourself

I am an HR professional with over six years of experience working in the retail property sector, and education sector.

I have always wanted to work in a dynamic organization that will build my skills and experience to enhance my upward growth.

How long had you been looking for a job?

My job search went for over six months. The reason behind that was that the company I was working for was shut down because of the pandemic which forced me to look for other opportunities.

What has your job search experience been like?

My job search was never easy. Looking for another opportunity amid the pandemic was hard bearing in mind that the economy was unstable and most businesses were closed.

Most of my applications didn’t seem to bear fruits and I didn’t receive feedback whether positive or negative.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I knew about CSS through online. I came across it when I was not looking for a job but then I didn’t focus so much on the website because I was in a stable job. When I threw myself into the job search pool, I had to check the CSS website for daily jobs.

How were the application and interview process?

The application process was not complicated. I sent my CV only and was called the same day. My first interview was with CSS and the second one was with the client but the process was smooth and transparent.

After the interview, did you think you would get the job?

Hope is what has always been driving me. In an interview, you either win or lose but for me, I was hopeful that I would get the job because I met almost all the requirements.

Many professionals continue to apply for jobs during this tough time. What is your advice to them?

For a successful job search, time is a factor. Applying for the jobs as soon as they are advertised increases your chances of getting an interview invite.

Some employers post a job and the following day shortlisting begins. This means that if they get a suitable candidate before the deadline, they will overlook the incoming applications.

Opportunities don’t always come open on your timeline but it is important to have your updated documents ready so that you take advantage of any job adverts that come on your way.
