Most companies today use Excel knowledge. As detailed in a report, 8 of 10 jobs today have a need for either Microsoft Excel or Word programs.
While you may have basic knowledge on Excel, there’s a lot more to learn that could open you up to a world of possibilities in the workplace. Whether you’re a teacher, accountant, graphics designer, administrator, or a data entry professional, learning Advanced Excel will help ease your work and at the same time, make it more productive.
I had a conversation with Grace, a recent graduate of the class. I wanted to see what led her to take up the class and whether she had found it beneficial.
Why did you want to join the Advanced Excel Training?
I am a trained admin who has been looking for a job for over nine months. Never did I think I would need Excel training beyond what I learned in the basic computer packages.
I had been applying for jobs with no response, until one day I was called for an interview as an admin assistant. I was excited because the job was not only in my field, I also had all the skills needed.
When I went for the interview, I was prepared for a ‘normal’ interview. I was shocked, however, to see that the interview was meant to be practical. One of the areas we were tested on was how well we could use Excel. The interviewer had technical requests I had never heard of before. When I left the interview, I was sure I hadn’t gotten the job.
When I got home, I looked up where I can gain comprehensive Excel skills. That’s when I saw CSS’ Advanced Excel Training.
What was your first perception of the training?
Before I attended the training, I was nervous. I remembered the practical interview and how I had failed. I had second thoughts as I thought I’d be in a class full of Excel geniuses who would outshine me.
Was this the case?
No, not at all. I was shocked to see a digital marketer in class. There was also a teacher. I was at ease knowing anyone from any profession could attend the class.
When class began, the trainer went with our pace. We learned some advanced formulas and even stopped using the mouse. Whenever any of us got stuck, she would take the time to explain the concept in really simple terms.
At the end of it, I could use the most complex of functions as though I had been a pro for years.
Beyond the practical skills, what other skills did you learn?
Before I can even get to the other skills, the practical skills went a long way in helping me. I attended another practical interview and this time, I aced it! I got the job and I’m starting on the 1st of April.
Besides the practical skills, I was also able to gain confidence. This was helpful for my interview, and I know it will really help me when I start working.
Would you recommend the class to someone else?
Yes, definitely. What I have learned over the five weeks is invaluable.
I would also like to tell guys that everyone can take the class. I never thought an admin assistant would need Advanced Excel Classes. When the class started and I met a teacher and a graphics designer, it only affirmed that anyone can take this class.
One aspect that has really stood out for me is writing reports. Where I interned, my boss would constantly complain I wasn’t sending proper reports. I didn’t know what he meant, but now, I clearly know what I should indicate, and how to make the report more effective with charts and tables. The class will not only teach you the complex functions of Excel, but it will also teach you how to fully utilize the program.
