Main Purpose

Reporting to Logistics Coordinator, the incumbent will be the primary focal point responsible for applying his/her expertise into field projects and providing strategical technical support to coordination and field teams in the countries in his/her region according to MSF policies, guidelines, and procedures in order to support the broader operational objectives of the mission.

Specific accountabilities include but are not limited to:

As a position hosted in the Kenya Office support hub, the RTR for Biomed-Lab will be responsible for:

  • Following the internal regulation and rule set by MSF contracting entity
  • Reporting on activities and movements while in Kenya to the Logistic Coordinator
  • Advising the LogCo on decision-making related to their biomed concerns when neede
  • Validating service providers and product-supplier couples in Kenya & wider region (medical devices and spares)
  • Implementing all new policies, procedures, deployment of equipment
  • Under the line management of HQ Biomed & cold chain advisor
  • Responsible for an area of expertise – biomed support for laboratory equipment used in OCA.
  • This position will have an important link with HQ lab advisors (for the countries of interest) and in-country lab focal point. Examples include during ad-hoc/repairs of lab equipment needing input from users & biomed tech, as well as at the planning stage e.g. MSF project/country program planning new lab activities.
  • Support for installation, maintenance and repair of MSF standard lab equipment.
  • Support for MSF non-standard lab equipment including locally purchased, according to capacity in terms of time and access to information (assisting from technical perspective directly or linking with relevant supplier) Available for organizing & facilitating trainings on behalf of MSF-OCA
  • Third line support to missions in his/her portfolio.
  • Documentation updates including Logistics Expertise Website updates as required, support and/or lead on MSF tool updates

Education

  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering/Technology, Electronics, Electromechanics, medical laboratory technology

Experience

  • Experience at international NGO field projects is required, MSF experience is a plus
  • Significant professional experience (at least 2 years) in her/his specialty area is required
  • Good command of project management and management and training-related knowledge
  • Laboratory equipment knowledge (especially maintenance and repair)

Mobility

  • Willingness to travel frequently (up to 50% of the time) to mission and Headquarters.

Languages

  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili essential
