Position: Laboratory Technologist
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reports to: Operations Manager

Role Summary
The Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for performing diagnostic laboratory tests, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of results to support clinical decision-making. The role requires strict adherence to quality management systems, laboratory standards, and regulatory requirements in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests (e.g., hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, serology) in accordance with standard procedures
- Ensure proper sample collection, labeling, handling, and processing
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and analyzers
- Validate and release accurate test results within defined turnaround times (TATs)
- Implement and adhere to internal quality control (IQC) and participate in external quality assurance (EQA) programs
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation, including logs and reports
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) standards and laboratory safety protocols
- Manage laboratory inventory, including reagents, consumables, and stock levels
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment or process issues and escalate where necessary
- Collaborate with clinicians to ensure appropriate test utilization and interpretation
- Support accreditation and regulatory compliance processes (e.g., KMLTTB standards)
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB)
- Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in a hospital or accredited laboratory setting
- Competence across core laboratory disciplines (hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology)
- Experience with automated analyzers and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is an added advantage
Competencies
- Strong analytical and technical laboratory skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of laboratory quality management systems (QMS)
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet turnaround times
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Team-oriented with good communication skills
- High level of integrity and professionalism
