Role Summary
The Dental Assistant will support the dental team in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality oral healthcare services. The role focuses on chairside assistance, infection prevention and control, instrument processing, and ensuring smooth patient flow within the dental unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide chairside assistance to the Dentist during clinical procedures
- Prepare and organize instruments, materials, and equipment prior to procedures
- Ensure proper sterilization, disinfection, and storage of dental instruments in line with IPC standards
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized clinical environment
- Support patient preparation, positioning, and comfort during procedures
- Provide basic patient guidance on pre- and post-procedure care as directed
- Manage turnaround of treatment rooms to ensure efficient patient flow
- Support inventory management of dental supplies and consumables, including stock monitoring and reordering
- Maintain accurate logs for sterilization cycles and equipment maintenance
- Assist with administrative tasks within the dental unit as required (e.g., appointment coordination, patient records support)
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate in Dental Assisting or a related healthcare field from a recognized institution
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in a dental clinic or hospital setting
- Training in infection prevention and control and instrument sterilization
- Familiarity with dental equipment and materials
- Basic computer literacy; experience with EMR systems is an added advantage
