The Audit Assistant will support internal audit processes, external audit readiness, and financial control activities across the business. The role will work closely with the Accountant to ensure accuracy of financial records, strengthen internal controls, and support compliance with regulatory requirements in a fast-paced digital lending environment.

  • Support execution of internal audits by reviewing financial records, transactions, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Work closely with the Accountant to review financial data, reconciliations, and reports to ensure accuracy and audit readiness.
  • Verify loan transactions including disbursements, repayments, interest, fees, penalties, and recoveries to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform routine checks and reconciliations across bank accounts, mobile money wallets, and loan management systems.
  • Review adherence to internal controls, policies, and standard operating procedures across finance and operations.
  • Identify discrepancies, control gaps, and potential risks, and escalate findings with clear documentation and recommendations.
  • Support preparation for external audits by compiling audit schedules, retrieving supporting documentation, and ensuring completeness of audit files.
  • Coordinate with the Accountant and external auditors during audit engagements, responding to queries and providing required documentation on a timely basis.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements including Digital Credit Providers guidelines.
  • Track and follow up on audit findings (internal and external) to ensure timely closure and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Support fraud risk monitoring by flagging unusual transactions, inconsistencies, or control breaches.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and audit-ready records to support governance and compliance processes.
  • CPA (K) Part I completed, with Part II ongoing (CPA (K) qualification is an added advantage).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in audit, accounting, or finance (audit firm or financial institution experience is an added advantage).
  • Exposure to fintech, digital lending, microfinance, SACCOs, or regulated financial environments is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of IFRS and internal audit principles.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and loan management systems is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good understanding of Kenyan statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong reconciliation and documentation skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work in a structured, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
