Must have:

  • Diploma in Nursing from a recognized academic institution.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience at a comparable position from a recognized Institution.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Certification in First Aid and Trauma Management
  • Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure in emergency situations
  • Physical fitness and ability to handle emergency patient transfers
  • Registration with relevant professional body.

Reporting to: Principal Laboratory Technologist/Head, University Health Centre

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency calls and provide pre-hospital emergency care, first aid, and basic to intermediate life support in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assess patients’ conditions at the scene and during transit, and provide appropriate emergency interventions to stabilize patients.
  • Administer emergency care procedures including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), airway management support, bleeding control, wound care, and immobilization of fractures.
  • Assist in the safe lifting, handling, transfer, and positioning of patients to and from the ambulance and healthcare facilities.
  • Monitor, record, and report patients’ vital signs and clinical status during transit, ensuring accurate handover to receiving health facilities.
  • Assist medical teams in emergency response situations and support coordination with hospitals and other emergency care providers.
  • Ensure proper use, cleaning, and maintenance of ambulance equipment, emergency kits, and medical supplies.
  • Maintain inventory and readiness of emergency medical supplies and report shortages or equipment faults promptly.
  • Accurately document all emergency responses, patient assessments, interventions, and handover reports in line with clinical protocols.
  • Participate in continuous professional development, emergency drills, and training to maintain competence in pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.
