Theatre Perioperative Nurse Job Tenwek Hospital

To provide nursing services within operating theatres, in order that the patient/client receives quality care for the honor and glory of God.

  • Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Conducts pre- and post-operative education.
  • Serves as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating team.
  • Takes and monitors patients’ vital signs.
  • Ensures that the correct patient and correct procedure are being performed.
  • Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy on medication administration by a licensed registered nurse.
  • Responds to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner, using the appropriate format and forms.
  • Preps the operating room for patient and procedure.
  • Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
  • Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum.
  • Initiates the patient education plan as prescribed
  • Perform any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Analytical decisions – reviewing and interpreting data and information and options to inform decision-making and the execution of responsibilities
  • Operational decisions – for day-to-day work tasks
  • Academic qualifications
  • Higher National Diploma in perioperative Nursing from a recognized institution
  • Professional Membership/Licensing requirements
  • Registration with and Valid License from Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
  • Have 3 years progressive experience in a similar role within a busy hospital.
  • Knowledge of theatre procedures and related patient care
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and ownership of assignment and adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and prioritize key initiatives and opportunities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence others, and to be a joy to work with
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • An individual who exemplifies integrity and honesty
  • Active listening, and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks; good planning and organization skills even under pressure and agreed deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence others, and to be a joy to work with
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise effective judgment, sensitivity, and creativity to changing needs and situations
  • Good computer literacy – Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Outlook
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality at personal and professional level
  • Self-motivated, having a strong work ethic and able to work under minimal supervision.
