Job Responsibilities

• Effectively performing assigned procedures following the set standards.
• Maintaining high standards of patient care peri-operatively.
• Receiving patients prior to surgery, receiving reports from the accompanying nurse and cross-checking the pre-op checklist.
• Ensuring pre-operative assessment is complete including the surgical checklist and nursing documentation.
• Effectively recovering of patients post anesthesia at PACU.
• Effectively performing circulating duties intra-operatively as a circulating nurse.
• Proper scrubbing for surgical procedures.
• Assisting with intubation and extubation of patients and ensuring safety of the patient intra-operatively.
• Communicating with anesthetists and primary teams regarding patient issues and shifting plans.
• Facilitating safe transfer of patients to alternate levels of care on approval by anesthetist.
• Ensuring safe use and care of equipment used in the operating room.
• Ensuring all specimens are properly labeled and delivered to the laboratory in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Requirements

• RN from a recognized school of Nursing or University.
• Diploma in Registered Perioperative Nursing is an added advantage.
• Registered with up to date license with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• 2-4 years continuous working experience in Theatre.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to operate equipment used in care delivery in Theatre.
