Swimming Pool Instructor Job
Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Coaching
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate swimming lessons as part of the school’s curriculum.
- Use effective and inclusive teaching techniques to instruct beginners through to advanced-level swimmers.
- Teach a variety of strokes, breathing techniques, and water survival skills.
- Prepare students for swimming assessments, inter-school competitions, and recreational events.
Student Safety & Supervision
- Ensure constant supervision of students during swimming sessions.
- Enforce pool safety rules and promote responsible behavior in and around the pool.
- Conduct headcounts and safety checks before, during, and after each session.
- Be the first responder in the event of any pool-related emergencies.
Emergency Preparedness
- Maintain valid First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certifications.
- Ensure emergency protocols are followed and incidents are reported in accordance with school policy.
- Keep rescue equipment accessible and functional.
Lesson Planning & Evaluation
- Develop lesson plans that align with the school’s physical education objectives.
- Track student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and teachers.
- Identify students who require additional support or alternative learning strategies.
Facility Oversight & Collaboration
- Coordinate with maintenance staff to ensure pool cleanliness, chemical balance, and operational safety.
- Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and changing rooms for hygiene and functionality.
- Liaise with class teachers and PE staff to schedule swimming sessions without academic disruption.
Extracurricular Involvement
- Assist with swim team training, after-school programs, and inter-school swim meets.
- Organize in-house swimming galas and school-wide aquatic events.
- Encourage student participation in swimming for both fitness and recreation.
Professional Conduct
- Serve as a role model for students by demonstrating discipline, punctuality, and professionalism.
- Uphold the school’s values and policies in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Attend staff meetings, training workshops, and professional development sessions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or related field
- Valid certification in CPR, First Aid, and Water Safety Instruction (or Lifeguard equivalent)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Swimming Instructor or Lifeguard, preferably in an educational or youth-centered setting
- Strong knowledge of swim instruction methods, child development, and aquatic safety
- Ability to engage children of various age groups with patience, empathy, and encouragement
- Physically fit and able to remain in the water for extended periods
