Specialist, Data Governance NGO Job Save the Children

Role purpose
To implement and uphold comprehensive data governance frameworks across the organisation to ensure responsible data management, enhance decision-making processes, and optimise programme delivery for children, while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures across the organization
- Collaborate with business functions to embed data governance practices and build capability through training and ongoing support
- Develop and execute data quality monitoring processes, identifying and coordinating the resolution of data quality issues
- Establish and maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata documentation to ensure consistent understanding of data assets
- Support the management of data governance forums and communities of practice to facilitate knowledge sharing
- Assist in defining and implementing appropriate data access protocols in partnership with IT
- Measure and report on data governance effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement
- Provide day-to-day operational support for governance initiatives
Experience and Skills
Essential
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assess data quality and suggest improvements in data collection and management processes.
- Problem Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and rectify data inconsistencies and governance-related issues.
- Communication and Facilitation: Proficient in engaging with various stakeholders, facilitating workshops, and communicating complex information clearly and effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with data management tools and software, and an understanding of database concepts is essential. Experience with metadata management and data quality tools is helpful. Demonstrated expertise in Power BI, including handling large volumes of data and building insightful dashboards to support quality monitoring and decision-making.
- Cultural Competence: Ability to work in diverse and inclusive environments, respecting various cultural perspectives and ensuring equal opportunities.
- Innovation and Creativity: Encourages innovative solutions to data management challenges and is willing to take calculated risks.
Desirable
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, data quality, data management, or related fields
- Involvement in projects or roles that required implementing governance frameworks.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams, influencing data governance policies, and contributing to broader organisational goals.
Education and Qualifications

- Degree or equivalent
Desirable
- Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business, or a related field is preferred. A postgraduate qualification, such as a master’s degree, may be advantageous.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications like Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalents can be beneficial in demonstrating expertise in data governance and related areas.
