Role Purpose Statement:

The Senior Relationship Officer- Credit oversees and coordinates all credit operations at the branch level, ensuring high-quality loan appraisal and administration, adherence to credit policies, and effective portfolio management, while supporting branch growth and maintaining asset quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Credit Appraisal & Approval Support

• Supervise appraisal of loan applications at the branch to ensure compliance with SACCO credit policies and procedures.
• Review affordability, guarantorship, collateral, and repayment capacity before approval.
• Make recommendations to the Branch Credit Committee or approving authority as per approval limits.
• Ensure adherence to delegated lending authority and escalation procedures.

Loan Processing & Administration

• Oversee receipt, verification, and processing of loan applications at branch level.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of loan documentation before submission or disbursement.
• Confirm accurate data capture into the core banking system.

Portfolio Monitoring & Quality Control

• Monitor branch loan book performance, including PAR, arrears, and delinquency trends.
• Identify early warning signs on accounts likely to default and escalate for action.
• Work closely with Debt Recovery Officers to support collections and loan regularization.
• Ensure follow-up on expired guarantees, insurance, and collateral documentation.
• Report on portfolio quality, exceptions, and operational challenges to management.

Operational Efficiency and Risk Management.

• Track loan disbursements, pending applications, and approvals.
• Monitor loan processing turnaround times and resolve delays.
• Enforce SACCO credit policies, internal controls, and SASRA regulatory requirements at branch level.
• Ensure all loans meet KYC, AML, and documentation standards.
• Support internal and external audits by providing branch credit records and explanations.
• Report any irregularities, fraud, or policy breaches to management. Reporting
• Prepare and submit branch credit reports (daily, weekly, monthly).

Ideal Job Holder Specifications.

Academic:

• Degree in business related fields preferably in Finance and Banking, Accounting or Economics.

Professional:

• Credit Professional Certifications an added advantage.

Desired Work Experience:

• At least Three (3) years’ working experience in a DT-Sacco, Commercial bank or a Microfinance bank.
