Senior Principal Engineering Technician (Structural) Job PSCK

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:-

  • cumulative service period of fifteen (15) years three (3) of which must have been at the grade of Principal Engineering Technician (Structural), CSG 8 or in comparable and relevant position in the public service;
  • a Diploma in any of the following disciplines; Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • OR
  • Construction Technician Certificate Part Ill or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • a Higher National Diploma in Construction (Structures, Building and Civil Engineering) or their equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • registration by the Kenya, Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) as a Certified Engineering Technician;
  • demonstrated outstanding professional competence and administrative ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • implementing policies, regulations, standards, strategies, guidelines, procedures and programmes pertaining to infrastructure and facilities construction;
  • coordinating site     supervision   for      infrastructure         facilities        maintenance and construction works;
  • rehabilitate and renovate existing public infrastructure and facilities;
  • ensuring inspection activities on infrastructure and facilities construction project to ensure compliance with design plans, specifications, and safety standards;
  • coordinating the inspection of conditions of existing public infrastructure and facilities;
  • taking part in preparation of contract drawings and specifications for use and comparing their details with work on site;
  • checking schedules of materials for infrastructure and facilities maintenance activities.
  • participating in        planning       of        annual         works programme   in        infrastructure construction;
  • checking progress reports on infrastructure and facilities construction works; and
  • managing records and information pertaining to infrastructure and facilities construction works;
  • managing infrastructure and facilities construction workshops;
  • planning and scheduling appropriate training for staff development in this cadre; and
  • taking part in preparation of tender documents, project costing and budget schedules;
  • coordinating technical site operations;
  • adopting innovations and new technologies in the provision of mechanical building services;
  • preparing technical and progress reports pertaining to mechanical engineering building services;
  • ensuring technical compliance, safety and quality control in provision of mechanical building services; and
  • coaching and mentoring of staff working under their· supervision.
