Working closely with the Head of Credit, he /she will institute recovery strategies for distressed loans/debts. The Job holder will execute the institution’s strategy in reducing the Non-Performing Assets portfolio (NPA) as per laid out guidelines in the UN Sacco’s credit policy. Monitors closely the distressed loans/debt portfolio and ensures they are fully repaid as stipulated in the terms and conditions to prevent loss to the institution due to non-repayments.
Key Responsibilities
- Projecting relevant trends that affect the collectibles of the portfolio and isolate potential problem areas
- Monitor the distressed loans/debts repayments and initiate/recommend course of action
- Supports the Head of Credit in instructing and following up with external service providers on Non-Performing Asset matters i.e. debt collectors, auctioneers etc.
- Extracts, confirms and transmits information to licensed Credit Reference Bureau
- Conducts member visits (on a need basis) and make telephone calls to follow up on payments from Non-Performing Assets
- Reports on NPAs (Write offs, Collections, Guarantors etc.) on a regular predetermined basis and provide information to Management and Board of Directors at UN Sacco.
- Ensures a record is maintained to track recovery progress for all loans/debts in arrears
- Ensures monthly arrears and reports are prepared and submitted to Head of Credit and follows up to ensure full repayment
- Ensures accurate demand letters are prepared and ensure that they are forwarded to the defaulting Members
- Ensures accurate reports are prepared and recommendations made on bad debts to be written-off to the management for approval
- Follows up on loan guarantors to ensure full repayment of defaulted loans
- Manage resource scheduling and the determination of priority of work and procedures to maximize production output and success levels.
- Report and monitor all risks associated with debt recovery
- Generate distressed loans/debt reports periodically
- Coordinates with insurance on settlement of death/permanent disability cases
- Feeds back to the business lessons learnt that can be utilized to leverage future business opportunities
Other Responsibilities
- Performs any other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of Credit from time to time.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 4 years’ experience in mid-level to senior positions in debt recovery
- Academic Qualification: Undergraduate degree in Business related field
- Professional Certification: Financial Management with bias to Credit, Collections & Recoveries
