Senior Mechanical Project Engineer Job (80-100K)

Looking for a mechanical engineering job in Kenya? Corporate Staffing Services is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer position. The salary for the role is Ksh 80,000 – 100,000 monthly. The job is based in Nairobi. Proficiency in mechanical project management and engineering design is required.

Role Purpose

Our client provides integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineering solutions across East Africa. They are seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer who shall be responsible for the delivery of mechanical engineering services on assigned projects, from concept design through detailed design, tender, construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and defects liability. The role provides senior technical input, coordination, and oversight, while all final approvals and commercial authority remain with the Director / Head of Mechanical Services.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Technical Delivery

• Lead mechanical design from concept stage, including preparation of Concept Design Reports and Basis of Design (BoD) documents.
• Develop and coordinate schematic and detailed designs, calculations, specifications, and schedules for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, LPG, and associated systems.Ensure designs comply with applicable standards (BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, Kenyan Building Code) and project briefs.
• Support tender documentation, respond to technical tender queries, and assist with tender evaluations.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and specialist disciplines.

Project Delivery & Site Supervision

• Take responsibility for mechanical services delivery from tender award through construction.
• Carry out and lead site supervision activities to verify installations against approved designs and specifications.
• Attend site and technical meetings and act as the primary mechanical contact on site.
• Identify non-compliances, issue inspection reports, and recommend corrective actions for approval by the Director.

Technical Review & Coordination

• Review contractor shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, RFIs, and technical proposals prior to approval by the Director / Head of Mechanical Services.
• Assist in resolving design and site-related technical issues.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers and site staff.

Quality Assurance, Testing & Handover

• Implement and adhere to the firm’s QA/QC procedures across design and construction stages.
• Witness and coordinate testing and commissioning of mechanical systems.
• Review commissioning results, as-built documentation, and O&M manuals.
• Support practical completion inspections and defects liability management.

Commercial & Reporting Support

• Assist with review of contractor valuations, variations, and mechanical cost appraisals.
• Prepare technical reports, inspection reports, and progress updates.
• Update drawings for approved minor design changes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Registered with the Engineer’s Board of Kenya
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in building services engineering, preferably within an MEP consultancy firm.
• Strong knowledge of BS/EN, NFPA, ASHRAE, and local regulations.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is mandatory.
