Senior Lecturer – Clinical Psychology Job AMIU
Looking for a medical job in Kenya? AMIU is hiring a senior lecturer – clinical psychology to teach psychology courses, supervise students and contribute to academic development. The role is based in Nairobi and experience in grant writing is an added advantage.
Main Purpose of Job:
To develop, manage and monitor implementation of Psychology and Mental Health programmes and related activities in the university. Lecturer will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures, contribute to activities which influence leading edge practice and may also undertake research activities, community extension, networking and partnerships. The holder of this post will report to the Head of Department in the execution of his/her duties, and will contribute toward meeting the key performance indicators and targets of the department, and the overall mission and vision of the university.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and training in the area of Psychology and Mental health.
- Curricula development and Review
- Grant writing and Research and Innovation activities
- Engage in fund-raising activities in the Department
- Student supervision and mentoring
- Mentoring of junior staff
- Publications and other forms of dissemination of knowledge
- Engage in professional development activities
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory bodies
- To support the Head of Department and other programme leaders in the department to manage the ongoing strategic development of programmes and administration in the department.
- To assess students’ overall performance, through setting/ marking programme work, practical sessions, supervisions, fieldwork and examinations, providing appropriate feedback to students.
- Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, from time to time.
Qualifications
Education
- An applicant must be a holder of a PhD in Clinical Psychology from an accredited University
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications, with minimum 28 points from the time appointed as lecturer or senior lecturer
- Registration with relevant professional bodies
Experience
- At least Four (5) years of full time teaching at University level as a Lecturer
- Supervised a minimum of three (5) post graduate and 2 PhD students to completion as a Lecturer
- At least 2 presentations in conferences (local and international conferences)
- Familiarity with quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory organizations; Contribute to the accreditation of programmes and quality control processes.
- Experience in grant writing and demonstrable ability to lead research projects, win bids and generate income is an added advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of participation in research activities
- Evidence of fund-raising capability
- Ability to work in a team
- Demonstrate high level of integrity
- Develop ideas for generating income and promoting the subject
- Demonstrate marketing capability
