Job summary:
Our client a Manufacturing company is seeking to hire a seasoned and assertive Senior HR Manager to oversee the complete HR function for a diverse workforce of over 300 employees, including white-collar staff, blue- collar workers, casuals, contractuals, and rate card employees within a manufacturing plant environment in Kenya. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Kenyan Labour Laws, employee relations, and process-oriented HR operations, and must be capable of managing complex employment issues while supporting business continuity and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage HR operations for all categories of employees across plant and office setups.
- Ensure full compliance with Kenya Employment Act, Labour Institutions Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and all relevant labor laws and statutory obligations (e.g. NSSF, NHIF, PAYE).
- Handle employee grievances, disciplinary actions, and workplace investigations, ensuring fair and lawful resolution of disputes.
- Drive end-to-end recruitment processes, including bulk hiring of blue-collar workers, and senior staff placements.
- Oversee contract management for outsourced, casual, and rate-card staff in accordance with legal frameworks and internal policies.
- Implement and continuously improve HR policies, SOPs, and compliance documentation in line with business needs and labor legislation.
- Manage HRMS systems, payroll processing, leave, time and attendance tracking, and ensure accurate statutory deductions and remittances.
- Lead employee engagement and performance management initiatives.
- Coordinate with legal advisors and government labor officials during audits, inspections, or disputes.
- Support operational heads and leadership with workforce planning, restructuring, and talent management strategies.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour
- Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of HR experience, preferably in manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial operations.
- Strong working knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience managing mixed employee structures (permanent, casual, contract-based).
- Experience in policy implementation, payroll, HR systems, and workforce automation tools.
- Ability to manage sensitive employee relations cases and navigate unionized/non- unionized environments.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Process-oriented mindset with strong analytical and documentation capabilities.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience with ERP or HRMS platforms.
- Strong command of employment documentation, compliance audits, and HR risk mitigation.
- Proven track record in change management and driving HR process improvements.
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.v
