Duties and responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities entail: –

  • Driving the Council’s staff as authorized;
  • Carrying out minor mechanical adjustments;
  • Keeping up to date work tickets for vehicles;
  • Recognizing and reporting mechanical defaults of the vehicles;
  • Carrying out minor mechanical adjustments;
  • Maintaining cleanliness of vehicles;
  • Ensuring security and safety of the vehicle on and off the road;
  • Monitoring and reporting expiry of insurance policies for motor vehicles;
  • Preparing and submitting reports on transport when need arises;
  • Ensuring security and safety of passengers and vehicle on and off the road;
  • Ensuring proper mechanical working condition of the vehicle;
  • Ensuring adherence to or observations of traffic laws;
  • Ensuring reporting of any incidents to police and/or the office immediately they occur; and
  • undertake any other functions as may be lawfully assigned.

Job Specification             

Requirements for appointment

For appointment to this grade, the candidate must have: –

  • Must have served for a minimum period of nine (9) years, three (3) of which must be at the grade of driver I or in a comparable position;
  • At least a mean grade D (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • A valid driving license free from any current endorsements(s) for classes of the vehicles the driver is required to drive;
  • A defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA) or its equivalent qualification from any other recognized institution;
  • First Aid certificate course;
  • A valid Certificate of good conduct;
  • Occupational trade test grade I for drivers;
  • Proficiency in computer applications;
  • Refresher Course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week at the Kenya Authority of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
