Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced, analytical, and results-driven Sales Manager to lead and grow our wholesale FMCG sales operations in Nairobi and surrounding regions and lead the expansion drive to Rural Areas in future.
The successful candidate will be responsible for: driving revenue growth, managing the sales team, strengthening customer relationships, analyzing sales performance data, monitoring market trends, and developing effective sales strategies that support business growth and profitability.
The ideal candidate must possess strong commercial acumen, comfortable and enjoys analyzing numbers to make sense out of it, and has a deep understanding of the Kenyan FMCG wholesale market.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve company revenue and profitability targets.
- Drive sales growth across wholesale, retail, and distributor channels.
- Identify new business opportunities, markets, and customer segments.
- Set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets and monitor performance against targets.
- Develop route-to-market strategies to improve market penetration and product availability.
Sales Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities.
- Use sales analytics to guide forecasting, inventory planning, pricing, promotions, and sales initiatives.
- Prepare detailed sales reports and present actionable insights to management.
- Monitor product movement and recommend interventions to improve slow-moving stock performance.
- Track key sales KPIs including volume growth, margins, strike rate, customer acquisition, and market coverage.
Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis
- Monitor competitor activities, pricing trends, promotions, and market developments.
- Conduct regular market visits to assess customer needs and market dynamics.
- Provide management with timely and accurate market intelligence for strategic decision-making.
- Recommend pricing adjustments and promotional strategies based on market conditions.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
Lead, supervise, coach, and motivate the sales team to achieve targets.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide guidance for continuous improvement.
Ensure effective territory management and route planning by sales representatives.
Train and develop high-performing sales staff.
Promote a performance-driven and customer-focused sales culture.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesalers, retailers, mini-markets, and key accounts.
- Handle major customer negotiations and resolve escalated customer issues professionally.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
Operational & Financial Management
- Collaborate with procurement, finance, and Logistics teams to ensure product availability and efficient stock movement.
- Monitor payments and ensure customers adhere to the payment terms.
- Support budgeting and sales forecasting processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and operational procedures.

Key Skills and Competency
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, sales and marketing or a related field.
- Proven experience in a similar role in the FMCG industry, with a solid understanding of wholesale and retail sales
- Analytical and data-driven with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends.
- Excellent understanding of FMCG sales operations and distribution channels in Kenya.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, sales reporting systems, and ERP software.
- Ability to prepare accurate sales forecasts and reports.
