Project Officer NGO Job SOS Children’s Villages

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will be responsible for planning, budgeting, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the Leave No Youth Behind (LNYB) project activities working with the Mombasa program location team under the technical leadership of the LNYB Project Manager and day to day supervision by the Mombasa Program Director. The Project officer will work closely with implementing Civil Society partner organizations, relevant Government Ministries, youth-led agencies and young care Leavers.

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

  • Lead the LNYB project planning and budgeting exercises as guided by the Project Manager and in line with the project proposal, overall budget, partnership agreement and other relevant policy frameworks.
  • Work with the LNYB team in Mombasa to implement the plans and budgets in partnership with implementing Government and Non-Governmental partners.
  • Conduct regular visits to project sites and implementing partners to monitor and evaluate project implementation, provide the required technical support and generate progress reports as required.
  • Assist to identify and address capacity needs and opportunities among implementing partners, networks and community groups by conducting capacity assessments and corresponding capacity strengthening plans.
  • Assist to develop and strengthen the capacity of local implementing networks, partners and communitygroups in line with the capacity building plans and SOS CV Kenya’s partnership policy.
  • Conduct data collection, analysis, maintenance and constant updating based on project indicators, including data on all young care leavers and indirect program participants identified and served by the project to ensure proper monitoring of project progress.
  • Assist in tracking project performance at community level and report, monitor and follow up on project activities.
  • Support the Project Manager to prepare periodic project reports based on accurate and evidence-based data/information for internal and external audiences.
  • Identify and document human-interest stories and case studies based on the successes of implemented projects.
  • Ensure sound financial and asset management in relation to project finances and other assets in line with SOS CV Kenya’s financial management and other related policies.
  • Work with the project team, networks and implementing partners and community groups to mainstream or integrate climate change; safeguarding; data protection; localization; gender and social inclusion in the project cycle
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences e.g. Project Management, Community Development, Sociology, Social Work or other related disciplines.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in development work preferably in an NGO context in working with community/grassroots groups, networks and organizations.
  • Sound understanding on and experience working with children, youth and communities/groups living in vulnerable settings.
  • Experience working with Government agencies on development, policy influencing, formulation and implementation.
  • Sound understanding of issues affecting youth in general and young care leavers in particular and the relevant policy and legal frameworks on youth development.
  • Sound understanding of human rights, rights-based approach to programming; human rights frameworks related to children and youth.
  • Strong monitoring and evaluation experience related to development and review of monitoring plans and tools; data collection and collation; analysis; processing, documentation and report writing.
  • Good computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database software programs.
  • Strong communication skills; team work; empathy; conflict resolution and adaptability.
