Programme Management Intern NGO Job UNEP Nairobi, Kenya
- The CITES Secretariat is primarily responsible for the implementation of the MIKE Programme An Internship position is available in the MIKE Unit based in the Nairobi Duty Station.
- Under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, and the overall guidance of the MIKE Coordinator, the intern will assist in the planning, researching, production, and release of communications and multimedia materials on a broad range of wildlife conservation topics, with a focus on MIKE Program.
Key Responsibilities
The tasks will include, but not limited to:
- Assist in organising meetings, workshops, and events related to the MIKE Programme, including the MIKE Subregional Steering Committee (SSC) meetings, MIKE training workshops, and MIKE–ETIS Technical Advisory Group (Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants – Elephant Trade Information System Technical Advisory Group (TAG)) meetings
- Assist in developing and adapting MIKE-related materials to support effective delivery of workshops and meetings. Support communication and contribute to maintaining engagement with Elephant Range States on MIKE-related matters, as needed.
- Take minutes, prepare and distribute documentation before and after meetings, as needed Assist in compiling and organizing MIKE data related to illegal killing trends.
- Support the preparation of summaries and briefing notes based on MIKE reports and findings.
- Support document archiving and organisation of files on SharePoint and other shared platforms.
- Support the logistical and administrative preparation of missions, meetings, and project-related events, including travel arrangements, documentation flow, and participant coordination.
- Maintain updated planning tools, calendars, and internal tracking systems to support efficient project implementation.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must, at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher); or
- have graduated with a university degree
- Preferred area of study: Academic background in Wildlife conservation, Environmental Management, Project Management, Business Management or any other related field.
- Candidate must demonstrate interest and motivation to work in wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on elephant conservation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable. NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
