Principal Engineer (Structural) Job PSCK

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:-

  • served for a minimum period of nine (9) years, three (3) in the grade of a Senior Engineer (Structural), CSG 8 or comparable and relevant position in the public service;
  • a Bachelors of Science or Engineering Degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering, Telecommunications and Information Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
  • registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya as a Professional Engineer;
  • registration as Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (MIEK);
  • valid annual Practicing license from the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya; and
  • shown merit as reflected in works performance and results.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • developing, planning, designing, supervising installation and maintenance of electrical and electronic engineer services including telecommunication systems, including instrumentation and control systems, communication networks (wireless networks, fibre optics and satellite communication systems), and ensuring they meet performance, safety, and efficiency standards;
  • preparing technical specifications and contact documents for tendering of electrical, electronics and telecommunications engineering services for approval;
  • developing and implementing, monitoring and evaluation of quality and risk management plans for electrical engineering services projects;
  • conducting feasibility studies and environmental social impact assessment to determine viability of electrical engineering services projects;
  • conduct quality assurance, performance and technical audits, and monitor and evaluate electrical engineering services projects and programmes;
  • conducting research in emerging issues and trends in electrical engineering services and preparing reports;
  • updating information on electrical engineering services and inventory; and
  • preparing strategic/work plans and setting targets.
