AIC Litein Hospital, a faith-based level 5 teaching and referral hospital in Litein, Kericho County, is seeking to fill the position of Optometrist in our growing eye care unit with qualified and competent candidates. The officer is responsible for providing specialized optometric care to eye patients, support in emotional and educational support to patients and their families. Key Responsibilities

• Formulate accurate prescriptions for corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses, and low-vision aids based on patient clinical needs.
• Perform detailed ocular examinations to evaluate vision health, diagnose refractive errors, and identify signs of systemic diseases manifesting in the eyes like diabetes, hypertension among others.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools like oct, biometry, b-scan and visual field analyser, smoothly co-managing or referring complex cases to our Ophthalmic Clinical Officers and Ophthalmologists.
• Work closely with the hospital’s optical shop technicians to ensure precision in lens fitting, frame selection, and dispensing of specialized optical products.
• Participate actively in hospital-sponsored eye screening camps and school health initiatives aimed at tackling preventable vision loss in the region.
• Educate patients on vision hygiene, contact lens safety, and preventive eye habits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Optometry or a recognized Diploma in Optometry from an institution approved by the Ministry of Health.
• Must be registered with the Optometrists Association of Kenya (OAK).
• Possess a valid, current annual practicing license.
• High proficiency in handling modern diagnostic tools, performing subjective/objective refraction, and prescribing low-vision devices.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, high integrity, patience, and full alignment with the Christian values and ethical framework of our hospital.
