Key Responsibilities
- To work with the nursing & medical staff to provide for the health care needs of all patients in the outpatient clinics, inpatient ward, casualty, and theatre.
- To ensure thorough assessment & documentation of history & physical findings for all patients, and referral for investigations and/or specialist opinion where necessary.
- To perform diagnostic & therapeutic procedures pertinent to the care of these patients.
- To lead the surgical team in preparation for, and performance of the operation as well as in caring for the patient in the immediate postoperative period.
- To be responsible for obtaining informed consent for every surgical procedure, from the patient or the patient’s legal designate as appropriate
- To supervise and mentor junior staff and advise on preoperative, surgical and postoperative management.
- Participate in quality improvement measures in assigned clinical areas, including continuous audit of the service.
- Provide guidance and expert advice on growth of the department to the Head of Surgery and the Director of Clinical Services.
- Cooperate with the various stakeholders to ensure optimal patient flow and clinical efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery
- Post graduate qualification in Neurosurgery
- Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council
- Possess a valid private practicing License
- At least one year experience working in a neurosurgery residency training program OR have undergone through a PAACS training program
