MS/HS Librarian Job ISK

Every educator at ISK holds the primary responsibility of ensuring student learning success and meeting the individual learning needs of each student. The Secondary Librarian plays a pivotal role in supporting teaching and learning for Middle and High School (MS/HS) students, while fostering a culture of inquiry, literacy, and academic integrity across the secondary school.

Performance will be evaluated annually according to the ISK appraisal system and the Librarian Growth and Appraisal Rubric.

Instructional Support

Collaborate with MS/HS faculty to:

  • Teach information literacy, research skills, and literature appreciation.
  • Support the integration of the library curriculum into all classes.
  • Provide material support (books, digital media, resources) aligned with curriculum needs.

Library Programs

  • Develop and lead all secondary-level library programs in alignment with ISK’s mission and values, including:
  • Visiting authors
  • Reading incentive programs
  • Book clubs and reading circles

Learning Environment

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and dynamic library space that functions as a hub for learning and collaboration.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and the community to foster a culture of reading and inquiry.
  • Proactively design and promote a positive learning environment, including:
  • Student behavior management
  • Visual displays and design elements
  • User engagement and outreach

Facility & Resource Management

  • Schedule and facilitate use of the library space for various stakeholders.
  • Oversee the organization and maintenance of secondary library areas.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of library design and renovation initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain the MS/HS library collection in accordance with ISK Library Collection Guidelines.

Technology & Digital Literacy

  • Curate and maintain access to relevant digital resources, including:
  • Magazine and online subscriptions
  • Research and citation tools
  • Resource curation platforms
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the library website.
  • Promote safe, ethical, and effective use of AI tools and other emerging technologies in research and learning.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with MS/HS staff and attend divisional staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with administrators, students, and other stakeholders on school-wide literacy and research initiatives.
  • Communicate with families regarding:
  • Library resources and borrowing
  • Reports and conferences
  • Holiday schedules and events
  • Professional Expectations
  • Professional Learning & Growth

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Library certification from an accredited university/college (required)
  • Advanced degree in Library Science / Information Science (preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant librarian experience (required)
  • International school experience (preferred)
  • Experience as an IB Extended Essay Coordinator (desirable)

Professional Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment

Familiarity with:

  • Cultural proficiency
  • Understanding by Design (UbD)
  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
  • Educational technology integration
  • Student-centered and concept-based learning

Proficiency in:

  • Google Workspace
  • Resource curation tools
  • Research and citation management platforms
  • Artificial Intelligence in education
