MEL Strategy, Systems & Frameworks

  • Lead the development and evolution of GMH’s MEL strategy and integrated MEL infrastructure.
  • Maintain organisation-wide MEL frameworks, indicators, and measurement approaches.
  • Build annual MEL plans, reporting calendars, and strategic decision points.
  • Advise the Leadership Team on the theory of change and GMH decision-making frameworks.
  • Develop an organisation-wide system for tracking co-funding and aligned investments.
  • Scope and execute activities that use AI, automation, and modelling tools to enhance monitoring, identify patterns, and generate predictive insights that support GMH’s strategy and decision-making.
  • Provide strategic direction for the development of an externally facing grant database, ensuring alignment with MEL frameworks, transparency goals, and impact narrative in partnership with Grants Management, Development, and Communications teams.
  • Ensure MEL practices reflect equity, context sensitivity, systems thinking, and Global South priorities.

Leadership of Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Ensure strong data governance, quality, and consistency across teams, including KPIs.
  • Over time, establish a co-benefit modelling framework that enables GMH to estimate and validate its contribution to outcomes like public health gains, economic benefits, food security, and conservation.
  • Oversee monitoring systems of KPIs and other relevant outcome metrics.
  • Champion the responsible integration of emerging technologies, including AI, into GMH’s insights, analytics, and measurement systems, expanding our capacity to anticipate change, understand the directionality of our work, and continuously improve impact.
  • Commission and oversee third-party evaluations at the initiative, portfolio, and organisational levels.
  • Translate evaluation findings into clear, actionable recommendations that inform strategy and choices.

Knowledge Management System

  • Design and maintain the knowledge management environment supporting monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Integrate insights from data, evaluations, learning sessions, and grantee feedback into a unified system.
  • Oversee internal annual learning reports and a year-in-review process.

Organisational Learning & Culture

  • Guide GMH’s learning agenda.
  • Ensure learning meetings and structured reflections are aligned with strategic questions and decision timelines.
  • Foster a culture of inquiry, curiosity, and constructive challenge.
  • Support adaptation and innovation across programmes.

Manage the MEL team.

  • Set priorities, provide coaching, and ensure alignment with organisational goals.
  • Represent MEL in leadership meetings, strategic discussions, and key decision points.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-driven environment that promotes professional growth and cross-functional partnership.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Demonstrates organisational values of equity, agility, humility, integrity, and care.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; relevant advanced degree in monitoring and evaluation, international development, social science, statistics, or related fields preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive MEL experience required, with at least 5 years in senior MEL leadership roles.
  • Proven track record designing and implementing comprehensive MEL systems for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Background in the climate, environmental, philanthropic, or international development sector strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methods, including theory of change development, impact evaluation, and participatory approaches.
  • Experience with emerging technologies in MEL, including AI, automation, and predictive analytics.
  • Previous people management experience required, with demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire MEL teams.
  • Strong knowledge management and systems thinking capabilities.
  • Experience with grantee-facing MEL practices and co-creating feedback mechanisms with partners.
