Machine Operator Famila Job Unga Holding

Looking for an engineering job in Kenya? Unga Holding is recruiting a Machine Operator (Famila) position. Proficiency in machine operation, process optimization, and SAP is required.

Role Purpose:

• Reporting to Fawema Supervisor the purpose of the job is to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Famila Plant.  The role holder ensures optimal setting of the grain cleaning equipment and grinding process to achieve the intended extraction rate. Perform basic troubleshooting and maintain a clean and safe work area.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Production Planning 

• Participate in the daily and weekly production planning meeting and ensure timely execution of production plans and schedules
• Ensure availability of bulk flour from Famila & Blending Plant for packing. 
• Ensure timely posting of bulk flour in SAP as per SLA with key stake holders.

Implement Food Safety objectives 

• Enhance customer experience through production of conforming products
• Maintain GMPs above 90%
• Ensure compliance to legal/regulatory requirements
• Implement Quality Plan and other food safety programs

Process Optimization  

• Ensure efficient separation of screenings during the grain cleaning process.
• Maintain set extraction rates and other milling efficiencies.
• Monitor conversion cost and reduce losses.
• Investigate process losses and take prompt corrective actions.
• Adhere to Product Specifications. 
• Reduce product reworks from the Blending Plant.
• Ensure proper utilization of human capital to improve manpower productivity.

Maintenance Programs

• Adopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper working integrity of the Famila Grinding equipment
• Conduct routine inspection of the process through Condition Based Maintenance 
• Conduct Autonomous Maintenance and AM awareness trainings – Tagging and elimination of abnormalities
• Ensure support for Planned Maintenance
• Maintain the working integrity of the process scales, MCC and PLC. 
• Ensure Interlock system for the process is working with no bypass
• Use available manuals for interpretation of errors

Continual Improvement Initiatives

• Improve operational efficiencies through PaTaMu
• Identify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks
• Participate in planned trainings to enhance competences 
• Participate in the Monthly HK Performance Reviews with the supervisor 
• Support activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST.
• Participate in organizing site events and initiatives as guided.
• Enhance employee safety through trainings
• Ensure adherence and compliance to safety requirements

Process documentation and Reporting

• Document and maintain all process records. Generate production reports: daily Grinder performance report, Blending Plant Batching Report, quality control records…
• Ensure reports generated are shared with key parties  on time and that they are error free
• Participate in the stocktake process and take corrective actions against variances.

Minimum Requirements:

• Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or any other related field.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar position in FMCG Sector
• ERP (SAP) management skills. 
• Good Supervisory skills
• Computer proficiency in MS. Office, MS Excel
