JOB PURPOSE:
To oversee and coordinate all loading and dispatch activities of finished steel products and raw materials, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, safety, and compliance with company and customer requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Loading and Dispatch Coordination
- Supervise and coordinate daily loading of finished steel products (bars, coils, billets, etc.) as per dispatch plans.
- Ensure correct product type, size, and quantity are loaded according to delivery notes and customer orders.
- Verify and monitor the condition of trucks before loading, ensuring they meet safety and capacity standards.
- Liaise with the weighbridge operator to ensure accurate weight recording and documentation.
- Prevent overloading and ensure balanced distribution of materials in trucks.
Documentation & Record Keeping
- Check and sign off on loading slips, gate passes, and dispatch documents before truck release.
- Maintain accurate daily records of truck loading, weights, and dispatch status.
- Report any discrepancies, shortages, or damages to the Dispatch Manager immediately.
- Coordinate with the ERP/dispatch team for accurate system entries and dispatch confirmations.
Coordination with Departments
- Coordinate closely with the Production, Quality Control, and Stores teams to ensure timely availability of finished goods for loading.
- Communicate with the Security and Transport departments to ensure smooth truck movement in and out of the plant.
- Work with Sales and Logistics to prioritize urgent or special customer deliveries.
Manpower Supervision
- Supervise loading teams (loaders, helpers, forklift/crane operators) to ensure efficient and safe loading operations.
- Allocate manpower based on loading schedules and shift requirements.
- Enforce discipline, attendance, and company policies among all loading personnel.
- Train loaders on safe material handling and proper loading techniques.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Abyssinia Group’s Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) policies.
- Conduct daily safety checks and toolbox talks for loading staff.
- Enforce use of PPE and adherence to plant safety standards at all times.
- Report and document any safety incidents, near misses, or damages.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement ways to improve loading efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and minimize handling damage.
- Participate in operational audits and suggest process improvements.
- Support implementation of lean and 5S practices in the dispatch area.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Mechanical, or Industrial Operations.
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in loading, dispatch, or logistics supervision, preferably in a steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of weighbridge systems and dispatch documentation.
- Familiar with ERP systems (SAP or equivalent) will be an added advantage
