Are you a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong foundation in accounting? Shopit Limited, a dynamic and growing company in Nairobi, is seeking a driven and dependable Accounts Agent Trainee to join our finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and launch your career in a professional and fast-paced retail environment.

The Accounts Agent Trainee will support the finance department in key areas, including but not limited to:

  • Financial reporting and preparing management accounts.
  • Handling tax compliance, including filing tax returns and promptly resolving tax queries.
  • Ensuring timely payments to suppliers and managing creditor accounts.
  • Defending the company’s financial interests by ensuring the viability of trades and transactions prior to approval.
  • Managing and maintaining customer accounts and billing.
  • Accurate bookkeeping and record maintenance.
  • Performing various reconciliations (bank, ledger, supplier, etc.).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • To be considered for this exciting role, you should meet the following minimum criteria:
  • Education: A minimum KCSE/High school average grade of B (plain) or its equivalent.
  • Academic Background: A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Professional Qualification: At least Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Intermediate Level or equivalent ACCA section.
  • Experience: Between 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in an accounting or finance role is required.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and excellent bookkeeping skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel; experience with any recognized accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) is an added plus.
  • Must be a proficient computer and internet user.
  • Basic knowledge of taxation and other statutory requirements.

Core Competencies:

  • Strong numerical accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • High degree of discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
  • Self-driven, dependable, and eager to learn.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.
  • Commercial awareness of the retail industry is an added advantage.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work six days a week (Monday – Saturday).
