Inventory Accountant Job Silentnight Bedding

Job Purpose
The primary objective of this role is to manage all inventory-related activities, including raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods across warehouses, manufacturing sites, and retail shops. The position focuses on:
Ensuring optimal inventory levels and minimizing discrepancies.
Implementing best practices in inventory management to support the production and sale of mattresses, beds, pillows, and other bedding products.
Primary Responsibilities
Inventory Accounting & Valuation
- Owning the accurate accounting and valuation of inventory across the foam manufacturing plant, warehouses, and retail outlets.
- Ensuring valuation is compliant with company policy and accounting standards, such as FIFO or Weighted Average.
- Performing monthly inventory cut-off procedures and reconciling sub-ledgers to the General Ledger.
- Preparing inventory-related journals, including adjustments, write-offs, and provisions for obsolete or damaged stock.
- Supporting the accurate calculation of Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and gross margins.
Costing & Manufacturing Finance Support
- Maintaining and reviewing product costing for bedding products.
- Monitoring raw material consumption, overhead absorption, yields, and wastage.
- Analyzing production cost variances (actual vs. standard/budget) and providing explanations to management.
- Collaborating with production teams to ensure accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the ERP system.
- Supporting pricing decisions and margin improvement through reliable cost data.
Inventory Operations & Internal Controls
- Ensuring all inventory movements (receipts, issues, transfers, returns) are accurately captured in the ERP system.
- Designing and monitoring internal controls, including the segregation of duties between stores, production, and finance.
- Overseeing periodic physical stock counts and cycle counts across all sites.

- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in maintaining accurate inventory records and identifying discrepancies.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze inventory data and make informed decisions to optimize stock levels.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with teams and management.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive in identifying issues and implementing solutions to prevent inventory discrepancies.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve inventory management objectives.
- Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing inventory demands and business needs.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional Certification: At least CPA Section 2 Part 4.
- Experience: Minimum of [4] years of experience in inventory control or management, preferably within a manufacturing or retail environment.
