Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer Job Stonefield Nairobi, Kenya
Job Purpose:
To develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve the company’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements, company policies, and international best practices while promoting a zero-harm safety culture within quarry operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health & Safety Management: Implement and maintain the Occupational Health and Safety Management System; ensure compliance with OSHA, mining, and environmental regulations; conduct daily inspections; coordinate permit-to-work systems; enforce Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Risk Assessment & Hazard Control: Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and routine risk assessments; maintain hazard registers; investigate near misses and unsafe acts.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents and dangerous occurrences; conduct root cause analysis; prepare investigation reports and track preventive/corrective actions (CAPA).
- Environmental Management: Monitor dust emissions, noise, and vibration; coordinate waste management and water pollution prevention; oversee the rehabilitation of exhausted quarry sections.
- Compliance, Audits & Preparedness: Conduct internal HSE audits and prepare for regulatory inspections; Enforce employee PPE adherence develop emergency response procedures, coordinate drills, and maintain emergency equipment.
- Training & Contractor Safety: Conduct HSE inductions, monthly safety awareness sessions.
- Occupational Health & Reporting: Coordinate medical surveillance; monitor workplace hygiene (dust, noise, chemicals); compile weekly/monthly HSE reports and statistics for management.
Working Conditions:
- Predominantly field-based in an active quarry environment.
- Frequent exposure to dust, noise, vibration, heavy machinery, and blasting activities.
- Regular walking on uneven terrain and occasional work outside normal hours during emergencies or planned shutdowns.
Academic qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
Minimum qualifications
- Registered Safety and Health Officer with valid First Aid and Fire Marshal certifications.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in mining, quarrying, construction, cement manufacturing, or heavy industry.
- Demonstrable experience in conducting HSE audits, investigating workplace incidents, managing contractor compliance, and implementing comprehensive HSE management systems.
