Head of Apiculture Job AFT

Position Summary

AFT is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Apiculture to lead and manage the company’s beekeeping operations at our farm in Soy, Eldoret. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing, managing, and expanding the apiculture program to support avocado pollination while developing a sustainable honey production enterprise.

Core Duties Include

  • Establish and manage the apiculture unit across the AFT farm.
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and monitoring of beehives across avocado orchards.
  • Ensure optimal pollination of avocado trees through strategic hive placement and colony management.
  • Manage bee colony health, including pest and disease control.
  • Supervising honey harvesting, processing, and storage in compliance with quality standards.
  • Develop and implement best practices in modern beekeeping and hive management.
  • Maintain records of hive performance, honey production, and colony health.
  • Train and supervise farm staff involved in apiculture activities.
  • Support sustainability and biodiversity initiatives across the farm.
  • Identify opportunities for value addition such as honey packaging, beeswax products, and pollination services.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience in apiculture or commercial beekeeping.
  • Diploma or Degree in Apiculture, Agriculture, Animal Production, Environmental Science, or related field is an added advantage .
  • Strong knowledge of bee colony management, hive maintenance, and honey production systems.
  • Experience working with large-scale farms or agricultural enterprises  is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare operational reports.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • High level of organization, responsibility, and attention to detail.
