Position Description

The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist will support KUE’s ongoing and future conservation projects with a focus on policy action. S/he will provide support in spatial data collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting. The Specialist will also sustainability transition initiatives.

  • Collection, analysis and interpretation of spatial data relevant to conservation agriculture initiatives being implemented by the organization using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Prepare maps and reports for policy dialogues and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support preparation of presentations
  • Provide technical support for KUE’s future policy projects, ensuring that spatial data policy strategies.
  • Any other task by the organization head.

Deliverables:

  • Soil degradation and erosion risk assessment maps
  • Biodiversity hotspot map
  • Land Use/Land Cover maps and trend analysis
  • Monthly/quarterly spatial analysis reports with key findings
  • Technical documentation of methodologies and data sources

  • Opportunity to present the organization’s findings in webinars, community events, and regional conservation conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Conservation, Sustainable Development, Agriculture, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in spatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and remote sensing.
  • Experience in spatial data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in conservation agriculture is a plus.
  • Knowledge in policy making process is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and conservation issues in rural settings is a plus.
