Objective of the Role

  • The Fundraising Lead will design and implement a practical, Kenya-focused fundraising strategy, mobilize resources from locally accessible and regionally active funders, and build thefundraising capacity of FBK’s internal team to ensure long-term sustainability. He/She will report directly to the Executive Director.
  • Fundraising Planning, Pipeline Management & Donor Reporting
  • To provide clarity on key deliverables, the fundraising Lead will:
  • Lead fundraising planning aligned with FBK’s programs and strategic priorities
  • Develop and maintain a live donor pipeline, including tracking prospects, engagements, and funding outcomes, using Salesforce
  • Monitor fundraising performance against targets and provide donor reporting, stewardship updates, and impact communication
  • Ensure pipeline and reporting are integrated into the overall fundraising strategy, enabling targeted resource mobilization and measurable outcomes

Scope & Responsibilities

  • Develop a results-oriented fundraising strategy that:
  • Identifies priority target funder groups (corporates, foundations, philanthropists, regionally active impact partners)
  • Focuses resource mobilization efforts on these groups
  • Lead development of high-quality proposals, concept notes, donor presentations, and pitch materials
  • Write and finalize compelling materials to attract and cultivate new partners
  • Strengthen donor engagement, stewardship, and reporting (integrated with pipeline
  • management above)
  • Deliver practical fundraising training and mentorship to FBK staff, including training on
  • Salesforce for fundraising
  • Ensure strategies and approaches reflect the African fundraising context, leveraging local networks and knowledge where possible

Key Deliverables

  • 2–3 year fundraising strategy targeting priority funder groups
  • Prioritized donor map emphasizing unrestricted/flexible funding
  • Documented donor pipeline with realistic revenue projections, maintained in Salesforce
  • 3–5 high-quality proposals, concept notes, or partner materials
  • Initiation/strengthening of donor relationships
  • Fundraising training sessions and practical tools for staff, including Salesforce-based processes
  • Monthly progress reports and final consultancy report with recommendation

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years in fundraising/resource mobilization, preferably in Kenya/East Africa
  • Proven success with Kenya-based or regionally active funders
  • Strong local fundraising network
  • Ability to write and finalize compelling materials to attract and cultivate new partners
  • Experience securing unrestricted or flexible funding
  • Experience using Salesforce for donor management or CRM-based fundraising
  • Experience mentoring or training staff in fundraising
  • Must be based in Nairobi and have a deep understanding of fundraising in the African context
  • Familiarity with food security, nutrition, agriculture, or social development sectors is an advantage
