The Green Belt Movement (GBM) is seeking to recruit Extension Officers to support the implementation of the Restore Africa Project

Job Purpose

The Extension Officers will be responsible for implementing GBM’s field projects by mobilizing communities, supporting climate-resilient agriculture, and ensuring effective project delivery in the assigned area.

  • Mobilize rural communities to form and strengthen tree nursery groups and engage in tree planting activities.
  • Promote sustainable land management, Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), climate-smart agriculture, and soil/water conservation.
  • Train farmers and groups on nursery establishment, sustainable energy options, and resilience practices.
  • Monitor, map, and track all tree nurseries, households, and planting sites in the project area.
  • Support gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in all project activities.
  • Provide technical support and supervise community volunteers, lead farmers, and casuals.
  • Collect data, success stories, and prepare timely progress reports.
  • Degree/Diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, Project Management, or related field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in environmental and/or development-related projects.
  • Strong skills in community mobilization, training, advocacy, and reporting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills in English and Swahili; fluency in Maasai (for Narok South/Transmara) is an added advantage.
  • Ability to engage with local communities, partners, and government authorities.
  • Willingness to work in field-based settings with frequent travel.
  • Ability to ride a motorbike is an added advantage.
