Program Overview – We Can Work: 

The Driver, Safety & Security Officer is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services in support of programmatic and operational activities. The role also serves as the Safety & Security Focal Point (SFP), supporting the implementation of organizational safety and security systems in line with Minimum Operating Safety & Security Standards (MOSS). The position ensures effective vehicle and asset management, risk mitigation, and coordination of safety and security measures to protect staff, assets, and operations.

Transportation 

  • Safely transport staff, visitors, beneficiaries, and organizational materials to project sites, meetings, and events. 
  • Plan and follow efficient routes while adapting to changing schedules and priorities. 
  • Assist with loading, unloading, delivery, setup, and dismantling of equipment and materials. 
  • Ensure passenger safety, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. 
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or vehicle breakdowns. 
  • Vehicle & Asset Management 
  • Maintain assigned vehicles in good working condition through regular inspection, cleaning, and servicing. 
  • Keep accurate records of vehicle usage, mileage, fuel consumption, servicing, and maintenance. 
  • Ensure security of vehicles, passengers, cargo, and organizational assets. 
  • Maintain vehicle safety equipment, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and communication tools. 
  • Track and document assets and equipment transported. 
  • Safety & Security Focal Point (SFP) 
  • Update and maintain the Country Safety & Security Plan and MOSS documentation annually or as required. 
  • Provide safety and security advice during project planning, staff travel, and risk assessments. 
  • Support development of contingency and emergency response plans. 
  • Provide support during incident management and participate in Incident Management Teams when required. 
  • Engage with local security networks and partners and disseminate relevant updates to staff. Oversee maintenance of security infrastructure and equipment (e.g. CCTV, alarms, security lighting, guards). 
  • Coordinate staff participation in safety and security training and maintain training records. 
  • Liaise with third-party security service providers. 
  • Participate in Safety & Security Focal Point and Security Management training. 
  • Collaborate with the Global Safety & Security Officer as required. 
  • Professional Conduct 
  • Act as a professional representative of Light for the World, demonstrating integrity, respect, and cultural sensitivity. 
  • Comply with organizational policies, codes of conduct, and safeguarding requirements. Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Kenyan Citizen KCSE mean grade D (Plain) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution 
  • Valid driving license (free from current endorsements for required vehicle classes) 
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant driving experience especially with NGOs 
  • Served as Driver III for at least three (3) years or equivalent experience 
  • Passed Occupational Trade Test III for Drivers 
  • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct 
  • Defensive Driving Certificate from AA Kenya or equivalent 
  • Refresher driving course (minimum one week) within the last three years from KIHBT or a recognized institution 
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (minimum one week) from St. John Ambulance, KIHBT, or equivalent- Desired 
  • Clean driving record with proven safe driving practices. 
  • Good Understanding of Emergency Respond Systems

Skills and Competencies:  

  • Excellent driving and defensive driving skills 
  • Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations 
  • Good navigation and route-planning skills (including GPS applications) 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel long distances 
  • Proactive problem-solving and adaptability 
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
