Responsibilities

  • Drive Gender strategy and roadmap development in collaboration with Foundation executive leadership.
  • Work with Foundation leaders and thematic resources to articulate and update the Gender strategy and Roadmap.
  • Provide oversight on Gender programs during the various program lifecycle stages, including scoping, incubation, design, and delivery.
  • Engage and maintain strong strategic relationships with relevant stakeholders, including institutions of interest, peer funders, and others relevant to the Foundation’s work in the field of Gender.
  • Convene thematic expertise and advance thought leadership externally and across the Foundation – at Pan African, E&T, HECIS, and Country Program level.
  • Cultivate relationships and facilitate engagements with thought leaders and other influencers to advance the Foundation’s thought leadership aligned to Gender.
  • Interface with Foundation business partners across other functional areas to test/refine and deploy thematic area operating models.
  • Lead the team in embedding operational excellence in day-to-day prioritization of work within Gender, team resourcing, delegation of tasks to meet partner demands, performance management input and other people management processes.
  • Interface with Country Directors in the design and delivery of Country Programs to ensure strategic cohesion, coordination of programming efforts, and knowledge sharing.
  • Champion the integration of gender considerations across the Foundation and specifically in Country, Human Capital Development and Pan African Program portfolio design.
  • Lead relevant internal and technical expert teams to advance the Foundation’s overall Gender outcomes in all areas of the Foundation’s work. 
  • Collaborate with leadership teams across the Foundation to co-design programs, embed designs, adequate resources and budgets to ensure implementation of safeguarding approaches and mechanisms.
  • Oversee the utilization of the Foundation’s Safeguarding resources and teams to strategically and practically implement policies, procedures and guidelines that meaningfully integrate safeguarding measures across the Foundation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, including gender/women’s/youth studies, education-related field from a recognized university.
  • Relevant professional qualification.
  • Member of a relevant professional body.
  • Minimum of ten (15) years’ relevant experience in a similar organization setting, with seven (7) years at a senior management level in a Pan African role or Global role.
  • Experience and knowledge of/with the landscape of local, national, regional, and pan-African women’s and youth-serving organizations and networks, as well as knowledge of the country-specific social, economic and political contexts. 
  • Experience in partnership management, including capacity building, coordination and networking for effective gender mainstreaming and youth empowerment.
  • Extensive experience in gender and youth and women-centred programme design and implementation in Africa.
  • Experience in leading organizational policy development and delivery on safeguarding and ensuring its effective delivery across a global organization.
  • Experience developing training and facilitating capacity building initiatives on gender, youth and women empowerment and safeguarding.
  • Ability to be flexible within a fast-paced, changing environment 
  • Demonstrable influencing skills at a senior leadership level and with high-profile stakeholders.
  • Proven success in developing and leading a global team.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, able to manage conflict and handle sensitive issues, particularly in cross-cultural and cross-departmental contexts.
  • Positive, solution-focused attitude.
  • Proven people management skills and team-building skills.
  • Experience in the design and analysis of monitoring, evaluation and research.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a multi-cultural team.
  • Excellent written, presentation and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines.
