Director Climate Change, Mitigation & Adaptation Job Marsabit CPSB

Responsible for coordinating county climate change programmes, developing and implementing climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives, integrating climate action into development plans, supporting climate resilience, and coordinating environmental and climate-related activities. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Meteorology, or a related field, a relevant Master’s degree, at least 10 years’ experience in environmental or climate-related management including three years at senior management level, and NEMA registration as an associate expert in EIS/EAS. The position is based in Marsabit and requires on-site work.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee County-level adaptation and mitigation projects, programs and activities across multiple sectors.
• Guiding the mainstreaming of climate change policies into county development plans and ensuring alignment with the national climate change act.
• Building institutional capacity, creating public awareness and liaising with national bodies or partners regarding climate adaptation and carbon initiatives.
• Provide Technical support on climate change to the various sector departments and agencies.
• Establish and manage a county registry for appropriate adaptation and mitigation actions by private and public entities
• To serve as the county knowledge and information management for collating, verifying, refining and disseminating knowledge and information on climate change
• Identifying low carbon development strategies and coordinate related measurements, reporting and verification
• Develop strategies and coordinate actions for building resilience to climate change and enhance adaptive capacity.
• Optimize the County’s opportunities to mobilize climate finance.
• Coordinate implementation of gender and intergenerational climate change education, consultation and learning at the sub-county and ward levels.
• Enhance sourcing and dissemination of climate smart technologies.

Qualifications

• Be a Kenyan citizen
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Climate Change, Meteorology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Extensive professional experience of not less 10 years, in environmental or climate related management, three (3) of which should be at senior management position.
• Registration with NEMA as an associate expert in Els/EAs
• Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Certificate in computer application skills;
