The salary for the role is Ksh 292,765 – 471,120 monthly. Proficiency in strategic leadership, legal aid coordination, and corporate governance is required.
Job Description:
- The Director/ CEO is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of activities in NLAS. The Director/CEO is the head of Secretariat and team leader responsible for providing strategic leadership in the development, implementation and review of the strategy, business and annual plans to achieve NLAS’s mandate.
Qualifications:
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have;
- A minimum period of fifteen (15) years working experience seven (7) of which must have been Advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from a recognized institution;
- Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law;
- Master’s degree in law or any other relevant Social Science degree from a recognized institution;
- Certificate in Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
- A valid practicing certificate or a clearance from the Law Society of Kenya;
- Demonstrated Merit and Ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
- Fulfils the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya
Duties and Responsibilities
The Director/ Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the following functions;
- Secretary to the Board;
- Accounting and Authorized officer of the Service;
- Coordinating the operations and the administrative functions of the Board;
- Spearheading formulation, implementation and review of the NLAS’s policies, procedures, strategies, standards and guidelines;
- Provision of strategic leadership and ensure excellence in provision of Services at the NLAS;
- Spearheading the development agenda of the NLAS’ including formulation of projects and programmers;
- Executing and communicating the Board’s strategies, decisions and policies;
- providing linkage between the Board and the Secretariat;
- Enhancing collaboration and engagement with stakeholders and partners in support of development of the Service;
- Promoting the corporate image of the Service;
- Ensuring continuous improvement of the quality and value of services and products provided by the Board;
- Fostering a culture that promotes ethical and good corporate governance;
- Ensuring Board’s compliance with the relevant legislation;
- Championing national values and principles of Public Service;
- Exercising the roles of Accounting and Authorized Officer;
- Managing and disbursement of funds from the Legal Aid Fund subject to the general or special direction of the Board;
- Ensuring prudent utilization of the NLAS’s assets and resources; and
- Resource mobilisation (technical, material and financial) for the Service.
Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale:
- NLAS GRADE 1: Ksh. 292,765 x 25,479 – 318,244 x 25,479 – 343,723 x 25,479 – 369,202 x 25,479 – 394,681 x 25,479 – 420,160 x 25,479 – 445,639 x 25,481 – 471,120 p.m.
