Director, Cancer Prevention & Control Job NCI-K

Duties and responsibilities will entail:

  • Developing and disseminating policy guidelines on matters relating to the treatment and care of persons with cancer;
  • Establishing programs for vocational guidance and counseling;
  • Strengthening the capacity of the relevant institutions for provision of high quality diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and other medical care;
  • Establishing institutions for provision of high-quality diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and other medical care;
  • Overseeing and co-ordinate advocacy efforts for the welfare and treatment of persons with cancer Coordinate operations of the regional cancer Control Centres;
  • Strengthening local capacity for large-scale production or distribution of specialized biological materials and other therapeutic substances for research;
  • Promoting measures that seek to eradicate conditions that cause and aggravate the spread of cancer;
  • Facilitating prevention of discrimination against persons with cancer
  • Providing public information on the rights of persons with cancer and the provisions of this the Cancer Prevention and Control Act;
  • Setting standards of safety and care for persons using such materials;
  • Providing access to information and technical assistance to all institutions, associations and organizations concerned with the welfare and treatment of persons with cancer, including those controlled and managed by the Government;
  • Supervising staff.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned from time to time

For appointment to this entry grade, an officer must have the following;

  • At least fifteen (15) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Deputy Director, Cancer Prevention and Control or in a comparable position;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Health Systems Management, Biochemistry, Health Records and Information Management, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Statistics or relevant Social Science qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Master’s Degree Public Health, Oncology, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Clinical Medicine, Health informatics, Nursing, Health Systems Management, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Statistics or relevant qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Valid practicing license;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
  • Proficiency in computer applications
