About Us
We are a fast-growing and innovative precast concrete manufacturing company dedicated to delivering high-quality concrete precast products for commercial and residential projects. As part of our expansion, we are looking for a talented Design Engineer with a passion for engineering design and site implementation to join our technical team.
Job Purpose
To provide structural design, technical support, and project coordination for precast beam and block systems. The Design Engineer will ensure the safe, efficient, and economical design of precast components while also reviewing conventional structural solutions to determine feasibility of conversion to beam and block systems.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
- Perform detailed structural analysis and design of precast beams, blocks, and associated systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., Eurocode, BS, KS).
- Prepare structural calculation reports and design documentation for internal and external approval.
- Optimize designs for material efficiency, production feasibility, and structural performance.
Design Review & Integration
- Review conventional slab designs (e.g., in-situ concrete, hollow block) and assess feasibility of converting them to beam and block systems.
- Evaluate the adequacy of structural designs submitted by clients or consultants to determine their capacity to support proposed precast slab systems.
- Recommend necessary modifications or reinforcements where existing structures require adaptation.
Technical Documentation
- Work closely with the draftsman to develop clear and accurate drawings for production and site use.
- Prepare structural details, design notes, and technical specifications for each project.
- Support preparation of quotations and technical input for proposals and tenders.
Project Coordination & Support
- Liaise with clients, architects, and engineers to understand project requirements and propose appropriate precast solutions.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical responses to client or consultant queries.
- Provide on-site technical support during installation and troubleshoot design-related challenges.
Factory & Quality Coordination
- Collaborate with the Factory Manager to ensure production aligns with design specifications.
- Conduct quality checks and resolve any technical deviations from design during production or casting.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all work complies with structural safety standards, quality control procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Keep abreast of industry innovations, structural design practices, and software tools.
Qualifications and Skills
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
Registration
Graduate or Registered Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
Experience
- Minimum 3 – 5 years Structural design.
- Experience precast concrete slab and/or slab design is a strong advantage
- Software Proficiency
- Structural analysis tools (e.g., Prokon, ETABS, STAAD Pro)
- CAD software (AutoCAD essential, Revit desirable)
- MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) 4. Key Competencies
